THE HILLTOP TEMPLE IN YAMAGATA

We went to The hilltop temple,or Yamadera, in Yamagata.

山寺、立石寺に行きました。

Zooming up again. We could see Godaidō building clearly.

もう一度アップすると、五大堂が見えました。


Tenkaiwa rocks.

天華岩です。


On the way to the hilltop temple,we could see various plants.

奥の院へ行く途中に見た植物です。

Cornel.

ヤマボウシです。

Beefsteak geranium.

ユキノシタです。

By macro lens.

マクロです。

Hydrangea serrata.

アマチャです。

Mountain thunbeng lily.


ヤマスカシユリです。

The main building.

根本中堂です。


Looking this area,it is said that Bashō,The Haiku founder , made a Haiku as follows.

せみ塚付近です。

In this hush profound,
Into the very rocks it seeps
The cicada sound.

閑かさや 岩にしみ入る 蝉の声

この句がここで詠まれたと言われています。
Kaizandō building.

開山堂です。


The innermost sanctum.There were about 1100 stairs 
from the starting point of this temple.

奥の院です。ここまで、約1100段の階段を登りました。

We could see the scenery where we started.

麓の風景です。奥に見えるのは尾花沢です。

  5. Was this where you spent your recent three day holiday? What a beautiful place! That temple looks like a natural, organic part of the mountain. I can't imagine the labor it took to build it!

    I love that haiku and I love Basho. I've had this haiku of his in my collection of quotes and poetry for years...

    The sound of wind.


    Those flowers are so pretty (my favorite is the "Macro Lens" one - is that a lily of some sort? So delicate!) and those views are spectacular! What a wonderful post - thank you for sharing!

  14. こんにちは。立石寺の遠景・中景・近景のそれぞれが素晴らしいです。階段が1100段もあるのですか。若いうちじゃないと行けませんね。ユキノシタの形がなんとも言えません。花の形もそうですが、英語名の「Beefsteak geranium」というのもなんとも言えませんね。写真からすると、岩にツタがからまるように寄り添って咲くのでしょうか。この花を観察できただけでも旅行の価値がありますね。

       こんばんは。将に山全体が寺になっていて、凝灰岩が多数露出しています。この景色がなんとも言えず良かったです。
       1100段の階段も写真を撮りながら行きましたので、さほど苦になりませんでした。
       ユキノシタは何処でも見られますが、今回は山野草が少ないので必死で探しました。Beefsteak geranium の語源も調べていますが、今の所分かりません。

    でも、耳を澄ますとせみの声が聞こえてきそうです。

      こんばんは。「奥の細道」では、尾去沢に来た芭蕉が、人に勧められて、山寺に戻った。と書いてあります。芭蕉でも江戸に居る時は、ここを知らなかったようです。
       蝉はアブラゼミかニイニイゼミかで嘗て、論争が有ったそうですが、ニイニイゼミに軍配があがりました。
       蝉の声に静けさを感じる、そのセンスが何とも言えず、素晴らしいです。「ゆく年くる年」は見ていませんので分かりません。

  23. 1100段の階段はやはりすごいですね!
    私もマクロのユキノシタの優美な美しさには驚きました。
    芭蕉の俳句はここで詠まれたのですね。「ニイニイゼミに軍配」というのを知って、Youtubeで鳴き声を聞きましたが耳をつんざく音ですね。でも成程アブラゼミではないように思いました。(結論を知ったから思ったのかも知れませんが^^;)

      こんばんは。ありがとうございました。芭蕉の行った頃には、アブラゼミはもう鳴いていない事が分かったそうです。
      岩に蝉の声がしみ入るのは岩が凝灰岩で軟らかいからという説もあります。
