WITH A BLOGGING FRIEND AND HIS WIFE IN TOKYO.

My blogging friend and his wife came to Tokyo from Malaysia.
I guided the Imperial Palace with them.

A Stone Bridge.

Nijubashi Bridge.

The Imperial Palace  in Tokyo is located at the former site of Edo-jo Castle, which was the castle of Tokugawa Shogun until the end of the Edo period.

Mr.Twilight Man and his spouse.

Sakurada-Tatumi-Yagura Turret. Tatumi means South West.

One of the typical stonework at the end of the stone fence.

Other kind of stonework.

There was a grey heron at the moat.

A swan was in the moat too.

There was a gate in this area. 「

The Castle Tower Site.

There was a conflagration  in 1657. The Castle Tower was burn out. The Shogun and many officials insisted to rebuild the Castle Tower. But The half-brother of the Shogun insisted that it was the first consideration to let a city restore now.

His claim was accepted, and the castle tower was not rebuilt.

Kita-Hanebashi Gate.

Hanebashi means a drawbridge. There was a drawbridge which was  in readiness for an emergency.

Going out the Imperial Palace,I guided them to a National Museum at Ueno.
And we departed there.

Thanks for visiting this post.

  5. Great place to visit and to enjoy all these details and aspects of this ancient castle and courtyard. What is really interesting to me, it comes, from the photo with the panorama of the city and the stone walls surrounded by water and nature... Of course the mix of stone water, green nature is so powerful, so impressive for the eyes, that it shows me that the high buildings from the modern times... well those buildings don't impress at all in this sequence... the main visual attraction is the old architecture in huge block stones! The first pic with stone bridge is a vision absolutely fabulous for soul.
Lovely to still exist place where to discover and rediscover history and to have a quick glimpse in another era...
    A great sunday for you!

  11. What a wonderful surprise to see this post with our photo. We were indeed very fortunate to meet up with your goodself who kindly showed us the beautiful Imperial Palace, Museums in Ueno and also New Otani Hotel in the darkness. LOL.. I enjoyed myself very much in the Tokyo Museum in Ueno and came out like 2.5 hours later while my wife went alone to the Science Museum & waited at Starbucks.

We have to express our sincere thanks to you again Minoru-San for all your time.

  14. In 2009 I was standing as well in front of the walls of the imperial palace in midtown Tokyo. I was watching the guards, but as far as I remember there was no chance to visit the castle complex inside.
Thanks for sharing this memorable impression!
